Located on bustling Main Street in historic Penn Yan, Staving Artist Woodwork is a family-run shop where we, Dan and Rachel Mitchell, pour our passion for the Finger Lakes into every handcrafted piece. From the natural beauty of reclaimed wine barrels, we shape furniture, fixtures, and home accents that honor both the charm of our region and the art of sustainable design. Dan, a Finger Lakes native with deep roots in the wine industry, has been crafting with wine barrel materials since 2005, while Rachel adds a creative touch to every piece, ensuring each item feels warm, inviting, and built to last.

Step inside, and you’ll find a mix of rustic and modern designs, from barrel-stave tables and lighting to custom signs and décor, each telling a story of where it came from and where it’s meant to go. We also love collaborating on custom projects, whether it’s a dining table that fits just right or a personalized gift that’s sure to be cherished.

Our process is rooted in sustainability and community. We work with 90% reclaimed materials and partner with local artisans—from metalsmiths to potters—who share our dedication to quality and craftsmanship. Alongside our furniture and décor, you’ll find our hand-poured candles and a house-made hot sauce that’s become a bit of a local favorite.
