Watkins Glen International R.A.C.E. community impact tops $400,000 in 2017

Jan 19th, 2018

The Watkins Glen International R.A.C.E. Foundation made a sizeable impact on the area community in 2017 – to the tune of more than $400,000.

In the foundation’s second year, R.A.C.E. contributed a grand total of $408,824.00 in area donations to local youth non-profit groups through grants, donations, and in-kind donations throughout the season.

“Racing and Community Enrichment was founded on the principle of doing good and giving back to the area,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup. “We are all proud to live in this community, and it’s great to see these funds going to such deserving programs.”

On Tuesday evening, ten area organizations received more than $31,500 at the second annual R.A.C.E. Grant Awards Reception at the Watkins Glen International media center.

Those groups included: S2AY Rural Health Network, Hammondsport Central School District, Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Science and Discovery Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County, Junior Achievement of Central Upstate New York, Watson Homestead, Dormann Library, Career Development Council, and Meals on Wheels of Chemung County.

The mission of RACE is to meet the needs of local underserved populations with a focus on youth-oriented support. The foundation uses a backing of a close-knit community to foster meaningful fundraising efforts, while leaning on support from the international racing family.
