FLX Sweet Treat Trail

The family-friendly Sweet Treat Trail is all about the unique sweets and treats that Cayuga County has to offer.  Whether it's honey or jam or homemade cookies made with locally grown and produced products, the Trail has everything to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings.  The 20 stops along the trail include farmers’ markets, bakeries, farm stands, stores, ice cream stands, u-picks and cafés, all featuring locally grown or produced sweet treats.  From north to south in Cayuga County, it seems like all roads lead to yummy goodness! 

The Sweet Treat Trail is open May 1 – December 1, covering three seasons of sweet treat goodies from tasty strawberries in June to crisp local apples through November. Travel the trail and have your pass stamped at 10 different stops for a chance to win a Sweet Treat Trail basket of goodies! Visit all 20 sites and be entered into the grand prize drawing, including all the same goodies plus a $50 gift card!

The Great Outdoors 

For adventurous types, an abundance of outdoor recreational activities are ready for you to conquer, including hiking, biking, fishing and even scuba diving!  With three state parks, well-groomed trails, nature preserves and three state forests, the opportunities are many to get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

Your outdoor adventure can follow the historic canal towpath of the Erie Canal on the Erie Canal Recreational Trail while you hike, bike, horseback ride, cross-country ski or snowmobile your way through history. The Montezuma Canal Heritage Park also provides scenic venues along its walking trails that take you to the magnificent Richmond Aqueduct, the second largest aqueduct on the Erie Canal.  It’s worth the hike!

Cycle the Erie Canal through Cayuga County

Are you planning a bike ride along the Erie Canalway?  More than three-quarters of the 365 mile long, off road trail between Albany and Buffalo is complete and safe for cyclists of all ages. This trail offers up the perfect mix of history and the outdoors as it traverses Cayuga County from the Seneca River to the Village of Jordan.  Check out these Must See and Dos on as you cycle the Erie Canalway Trail through Cayuga County!!  

Consider a visit to the Richmond Aqueducts!  A short bike ride down this tree laden path leads you to one of the best kept secrets of the Erie Canal’s historic past!  Learn more...​

Make a rest stop at the Port Byron Old Erie Canal Heritage Park and walk through the Enlarged Canal Lock 52 site and the Erie House Complex, which includes the Erie House Tavern and Hotel, a blacksmith shop and a mule barn.  FREE guided tours are provided!

Take a break at the Centerport Aqueducts. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places this aqueduct dates all the way back to 1854!

Psst….We have some great photo ops too!  On your ride, be on the look-out for this beauty along Route 31 heading towards Weedsport! Local artist Dawn Jordan painted this striking mural depicting four "train cars" which are based on the Four Freedoms FDR spoke of in his 1941 State of the Union address.  Learn more here!

Explore the Village of Weedsport – If time allows for a stop in the village try to visit the Old Brutus Historical Society Museum, or treasure hunt with the impressive selection at Purple Monkey Antiques. Just looking to cool off? Grab an ice cream at DB’s Drive In
