Join us for an evening with Margot Lee Shetterly as she sheds light on the phenomenal true story of the black “human computers” who used math to change their own lives—and their country’s future. Set against the rich backdrop of World War II, the Space Race, the Civil Rights Era, and the burgeoning fight for gender equality, this talk brings to life the stories of Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Christine Darden, who worked as mathematicians at NASA during the golden age of space travel.

The Southeast Steuben County Library and The Rockwell Museum invite you to an evening with Dr. Krewasky Salter as he presents and answers questions on the history of the Buffalo Soldiers amid the larger context of the African American experience in the military. This program is made possible by a grant in memory of Keith Vaughan.

A pioneer in the artistic use of electronic technology, Laurie Anderson has worked with nearly every major technological innovation from the 1970s to today—from synthesizers to CD-ROMs to virtual reality. In this lecture, Marina Isgro, curator of Anderson’s largest U.S. museum show to date at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, will speak about the artist’s impact and give a behind-the-scenes virtual tour of her exhibition.
