GlassFest Adds Field of Honor to Recognize Veterans

Mar 23rd, 2017

Corning’s Gaffer District and Corning Veterans Engaged to Support
(C-VETS) introduce the Field of Honor as an important new element during GlassFest this year.

Throughout Memorial Day Weekend, May 26–28, 2017 as many as  270 flags in the Field of Honor will be displayed in Riverfront Centennial Park. The public can sponsor a flag for a veteran or purchase one for themselves—the cost to sponsor a flag is $35, and the net-profit will go to C-VETS. If a flag is purchased online there will be a $1.40 service charge added to the total cost.

The Field of Honor is a nationally recognized event organized by Colonial Flag in Utah. As part of the sponsorship, the honoree’s information will be displayed on the flagpole tag and after the Rock The Park concert on Sunday afternoon, the flag can be picked up or donated. Flag donations can be made to a veteran’s organization, nursing home, or other civic organization to distribute among veterans. There will be a ceremony following the concert presenting donated flags to any identified groups.

On Friday, May 26, 2017 the field will be set up with as many as  270 flags and then taken down on Sunday, May 28, 2017. The field will be mapped and open for all to visit, reflect, and locate sponsored flags. All flags will be removed and folded by civic organizations according to flag etiquette between 5–8pm. There will also be a place to drop off old, worn flags for proper disposal.

Flags can be purchased online at www.healingfield.org/corning17 or by completing a Flag Order Form and sending it along with payment to:

C-VETS / Attn: Stephanie Spry
MP-HQ-02-E35
One Riverfront Plaza
Corning, NY  14831

All sponsored flags must be picked up on Sunday, May 28 from 5–8pm in Riverfront Centennial Park.

Volunteers are also needed for setup and removal, please contact Stephanie Spry if you would like to help out.
