Summer Sunset Concert Series
The very last concert in the GCV&M Summer Sunset Series is coming up on Friday, September 2. Local favorite The SkyCats will take to the stage with tunes ranging from classic rock to swing and soul. Visitors can enjoy live music from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., and the Museum closes at 9 p.m. This series presents a rare opportunity to enjoy the Museum grounds after-hours, watch as the sun sets over Flint Hill, and enjoy a meal from the Depot Grill. The Freight House Pub and deck will be open for drinks and the Depot Restaurant will be open for dinner, snacks, and ice cream. Neighbors Free Weekend
Neighbors Free Weekend is back this season at Genesee Country Village & Museum. On Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., residents of LeRoy, Mumford, Rush, Henrietta, Caledonia, Scottsville, and West Henrietta (zip codes 14423, 14482, 14511, 14546, 14467, 14543, and 14586) can enjoy free admission to all the Museum has to offer. Stroll through the Historic Village, picnic on the Great Meadow, peruse new exhibits in the John L. Wehle Gallery, hike the nature trails, and more. Neighbors Free Weekend is the Museum’s way of acknowledging neighbors and thanking them for their generous support. To receive free admission, neighbors need only present a driver's license or a utility bill with the applicable zip code at the admissions area.
Welcoming New American Citizens
On Thursday, September 8, and Thursday, September 22, GCV&M will host Naturalization Ceremonies on the Museum grounds welcoming approximately 100 new American citizens from 25 countries all around the world. Museum visitors are welcome to join in this moving celebration as new citizens and their families celebrate their naturalization.
Hop Harvest Festival
Follow the journey of hops, one of New York States original cash crops, from field, to brewery, to pint glass at this year’s Hop Harvest Festival at GCV&M. The Festival will take place on Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Explore a working 19th-century brewery, sample local craft beers, see recipes featuring ale being cooked in historic kitchens, enjoy a historic meal of bratwurst and sauerkraut served out of Hosmer’s Inn (built in 1818), and more. In the John L. Wehle Gallery, visitors have the opportunity to explore the connection between Genesee Brewing Company, Ducks Unlimited, and waterfowl conservation during a gallery talked entitled “Ducks, Hunting, & Beer: Genesee Brew House & Ducks Unlimited” taking place at 2 p.m. This talk is hosted by curator Brandon Brooks. With a beer garden, demonstrations throughout the Historic Village, live music by Big Logic and the Truth Serum, performances by the Heindengold German Dancers and alphorn players, food specials, and craft beer aplenty, this is a great way for a beer-enthusiast to spend a Saturday. All 21+ visitors who intend to consume alcohol at the event must show valid identification with proof of age and will be given a wrist band at the beer garden.
