The newest vintage of our popular Big Red Blend <https://buttonwoodgrove.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=2061726d58f63105f87fb51b8&id=f699e8170b&e=3927bf0c89> has just hit the shelves! Aged for 18 months in French oak, this vibrant dry red has bold black cherry and cedar aromas. Silky and savory, the palate shows a bright burst of red cherry, with overtones of dried herbs and a lingering finish. Bright acidity makes it an excellent food pairing wine for late-summer BBQs! A blend of 46% Lemberger, 30% Cab Franc, 19% Corot Noir, and small amounts of Pinot Noir and Merlot, this wine was handcrafted from grapes sourced from Cornell Cooperative Extension's Finger Lakes Grape Program. A portion of the proceeds from each bottle will be donated back to the program to continue research and education in the Finger Lakes.

KAYAK and CANOE ON CAYUGA
SATURDAY, AUGUST 28
1:00 - 4:00 PM
Join us for a 1-hour canoe/kayak paddle on the peaceful waters of Cayuga Lake to look and listen for migratory birds including Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, and more. No paddling experience is necessary and instructions will be provided. Following the paddle, we'll head to the tasting room where we'll explore a selection of wine and food pairings with the Buttonwood staff. To wrap up the event, Daena Ford, President of Braddock Bay Raptor Research, will lead a live birds of prey presentation with up-close views of rehabilitated hawks, falcons, and owls. The event will run rain or shine. If it rains, the paddle will become a guided birding hike at the winery. Bring your binoculars and camera to capture images of the beautiful habitats and wildlife!

Fall is right around the corner, and if you've never visited during the harvest season, you don't know what you're missing! NEWS FROM THE VINEYARDS
It's hard to believe that it's already August, and time to protect the grapes with netting! This system is a deterrent for birds and other wildlife that love grapes as much as we do. The Pinot Noir grapes in our Waterfall Block were covered earlier this week, which means harvest will be here before we know it! Sue and the vineyard team are using the Scott Henry trellising system for this fruit, training the shoots so some grow upward and others point down, leaving a clear fruiting zone in the middle. Meticulous management of the canopy by removing excess foliage ensures these grapes will get the most possible sun exposure, necessary for proper ripening. Be sure to take a look at our beautiful vines on your next visit!

AUGUST IS FINGER LAKES WINE MONTH!
To help you celebrate, we're offering tours of our vineyard and production facility so you can discover what goes on behind the scenes, and learn how our wines are made. Tours are available Thursday through Sunday, 10:00 - 4:00. Reservations are requested, and can be made by calling us at 607-869-9760. $3/person for the tour only, or $15/person with tasting experience included.
