Harris Hill Soaring Corporation
The Soaring Capitol of America
Experience silent flight at one of the most scenic and historic soaring sites in America! Co-located with the National Soaring Museum and the Harris Hill amusement park, a visit to Harris Hill is a fun and exciting day trip amid the beauty of the Finger Lakes. Your FAA-certified commercial glider pilot will take you aloft in a modern high performance ASK-21 glider. The ASK-21 features a wrap-around canopy for spectacular views, and carries a single passenger – you! and your pilot. There is no practical age limit, young or old. All you need is a desire to experience graceful, silent flight over the Chemung valley. Weather permitting, each ride lasts 15-20 minutes. All flights are towed to an altitude of approximately 4,000 feet above sea level. Your pilot will point out the local sights and on most days, Watkins Glen and the Finger Lakes are visible to the North with Elmira and Corning to the Southeast and Northwest, respectively. Bring your camera! We fly public rides on weekends from mid-April through October, and on weekdays over the summer. Please see our website for more information and our current rates.
We also offer flight training! Are you ready to begin the adventure of a lifetime, one that will grow and change with your skills, providing fresh opportunities to learn and grow each time you take off? Do you wonder what it is like to be towed aloft in a motorless aircraft only to stay there, sometimes for hours, using just your wits to capture the energy in the atmosphere around you? Does your heart race just a little when you see an aircraft take off? If so, soaring at HHSC could be for you. Our members range in age from 13 (we have the best junior program in the country) to 93! Joining the ranks of glider pilots is just the beginning of an incredibly rewarding journey that you can participate in for many years. Best of all, you’ll meet new friends at Harris Hill Soaring who also think soaring is pure joy and are there for fun as well. In addition, soaring is one of the most cost efficient ways to learn how to fly. Please see our website for further information and to schedule an introductory FAST (Fly A Sailplane Today) lesson.
