In early childhood, I spent hours collecting shells and stones on various beaches around the US with my parents and grand parents. Searching for the right stones is a type of meditation. I am inspired by the vertically stacked shale-stones formed by waves near the waters edge of Seneca Lake. I like to think that my best work is achieved when I get out of the way of myself and let the stones take me where they want to go, as close to nature as possible.
Michael Callahan holds a degree in Industrial Design from The University Of The Arts in Philadelphia. He has studied landscape painting, glass blowing, blacksmithing, woodworking and pottery. He spent 20 years designing products mainly in the housewares industry working on brands such as Steuben, OXO, All Clad, Umbra, Pyrex, Revere and Oneida. He has lived on Seneca Lake for 20 years with his wife Mary.
