Phelps Glen, NY (April 23, 2008) – The Phelps Arts Center presents a “Bach & Choc” Recital featuring Genoveffa Vitale on the Marimba on Sunday, May 4th at 2:00 pm. Guests will enjoy selections of Bach and other pieces artfully performed in the beautiful, historic venue of the former Episcopal Church, now home to the Phelps Arts Center. For further indulgence, guests will have the opportunity to bid on two baskets of scrumptious homemade Springmeier Chocolates. Tickets are $15 each or $25 for a couple; members receive a $5 discount. Student tickets are available for $7.50. The price includes admission to the current exhibit, Portraiture, on display through June.

The featured musician, Genoveffa Vitale, holds an AAS from Onondaga Community College and a BME from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. While at Crane, Genoveffa won the Crane Concerto Competition and obtained a Performance Certificate in percussion. This talented young performer is making a special appearance in our region to share her passion for the Marimba.

At the Portraiture exhibit, visitors will find portraits dating back as far as 1790 as well as contemporary pieces. The subjects range from children to animals and the mediums vary as well, covering oils, pastels, charcoal, pencil and more. Three dimensional arts find a place in this eclectic mix with a selection of bronze busts, including one of William E. Simon, namesake of the business school at University of Rochester. These pieces are presented by artist, Wayne Williams, who also shares additional portrait art for the exhibit.

The music, the art, and the company are sure to make for a splendid outing, so plan to join your fellow music lovers at the Marimba Recital on May 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the Phelps Arts Center. The normal operating hours for the Center are Friday through Sunday, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. For additional information, please visit www.phelpsny.com/arts or call (315) 548-2095.
