NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame – Tim Noga
Watkins Glen, NY (March 10, 2008) – The New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame announces that its class of inductees for 2008 will include the late Timothy Noga. He will be honored at the annual banquet April 26 in Canastota, NY. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the Hall of Fame.
The New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame is an organization dedicated to honoring sportsmen who have made significant achievements in outdoors-related fields. More importantly, they are recognized for their long-time service in preserving our outdoor heritage and helping others experience it. The NYSOHOF is also involved in programs such as kids fishing derbies, A Future Anglers Outreach program, seminars, clinics, and similar activities.
Tim Noga was a quiet person who never sought the limelight. But whenever there was a task or project that the Falcon Sportsman Club, the Cayuga County Federation of Conservation Clubs, or the NYS Conservation Council needed, you could be sure that Tim was involved. He was a lifetime member of the Falcon Sportsman Club and served as officer or director for over 20 years. He was Secretary of the Cayuga County Federation for many years and represented them in the NYSCC.
Tim was also the Region 7 Director of the NYSCC and the Council’s representative to the Region 7 Fish & Wildlife Management Board, as well as chair of the Habitat – Access Committee. He had received several awards for his many roles in NYSCC. In addition to being Vice Chairman of TIPP (Turn in Polluters & Poachers), he represented the organization at the International Association of Natural Resources Crime Stoppers.
Working with youngsters was a special devotion for Tim and he was a long time volunteer instructor in Hunter Safety Education and Waterfowl Identification. He played a crucial role in the start of annual waterfowl hunts for junior hunters at Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. He spent countless hours with young people fishing, hunting, and opening their eyes to opportunities of outdoor recreation.
Tim was a founding member and officer of the Friends of Montezuma Wetlands Complex. He was also a founder of the Finger Lakes Chapter of Pheasants Forever and held several key positions including Youth Hunt Coordinator. Tim Noga left us far too soon but his legacy will live on in the countless conservation and youth programs that he was involved in.
The NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame Banquet will be held April 26 at the Rusty Rail in Canastota, with registration and social hour beginning at 5 pm. The public is welcome to attend. Reservations or more information are available by calling Leo Maloney at (315) 363-3896 by April 18.
